Imran Khan’s party has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court on Friday, seeking his release from jail. The petition argues that due to the prolonged effects of his imprisonment on his health and the current situation with India, there is a serious threat to his life. Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, has been imprisoned since mid-2023 in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, facing multiple cases.
The petition was filed by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, who said in a message that the party has approached the court for Khan’s release. The request emphasizes that, given the current tense situation with India, national unity and solidarity are at stake, and there is also a risk of drone attacks in the jail.
Speaking to the media outside the court, Gandapur referred to Imran Khan as a leader of the Muslim Ummah (community) and expressed hope for justice.
